Cardiac Arrest Rhythms and Conditions The ECG rhythms/conditions for patients who are in cardiac arrest are ventricular fibrillation (VF; Figure 16A and B), pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT), asystole (Figure 17), or pulseless electrical activity (PEA), which presents with a variety of rhythms.
- The pulse may disappear before the onset of VF if a common precursor to VF, rapid VT, develops before the VF.
* Stable to unstable VT, untreated
Defining Criteria per ECG * Rhythm that displays organized electrical activity (not VF/pulseless VT)
Monomorphic VT (Figure 22) Pathophysiology * Impulse conduction is slowed around areas of ventricular injury, infarct, or ischemia.،Cardiac Arrest Rhythms and Conditions The ECG rhythms/conditions for patients who are in cardiac arrest are ventricular fibrillation (VF; Figure 16A and B), pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT), asystole (Figure 17), or pulseless electrical activity (PEA), which presents with a variety of rhythms.

Several randomized trials compared TH with standard care in improving survival and neurological outcome after VF/VT OHCA (Table 17.1).
The main evidence for the value of TH was generated by two studies performed a decade ago [4, 5] that comprised 352 patients with VF/VT OHCA.
